Head Start

The Oglala Lakota Head Start/Early Head Start program provides childcare and education for about 300 children (babies to 5 years old) across 10 locations on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
The program is connected with Oglala Lakota College (OLC) to support parents who are completing their college education.

How You Can Help:

  • Books
  • Hats
  • Mittens
  • Blankets or quilts for nap time
  • New Underwear for ages 3 to 5 to aid with potty training
  • Clothes and bibs
  • Shoes and socks
  • Small toys, activity books, crochet/knit stuffed toys (no plastic eyes please)
  • Snacks as some of the children come in hungry

Monetary donations sent to Lakota Friends Circle allowed us to purchase 252 coats for the 2025-26 Winter. As new kids will arrive in August, and some will have outgrown their clothes, we will need to purchase more. You can help with a monthly donation on this page.
